Even after completing a decade within the industry, actress Bipasha Basu says she has no close friends in Bollywood
The 33-year-old actress says she has her own reservations relating to approaching a filmmaker for a job.
"If I meet someone at a function, I do say hello. I'M cordial to all. However, I CANNOT pick up the telephone next morning and propose to devise a movie together. A LARGE NUMBER OF that is also in view that nobody is my buddy in Bollywood.
I know that for some available in the market this does count. Nothing wrong with that but then that's just not me," Bipasha said. "On my speed dial, there is not any one from the industry. When a job is obtainable and it's ok then I do this. Otherwise I stay up for the following right opportunity," she added.
However, within the cut throat competition that prevails in Bollywood, doesn't she feel that she might be losing out on movies?
"Possibly, but then as I said, it is a conscious call. I HAVE NOT created such equations because I'M REALLY NOT comfortable doing that. I WILL NOT see myself saying that 'Hey, we're friends so give me a task for your film.'
"I am friends with people around me but not friendly enough to begin bargaining with them or emotionally blackmail them. Ultimately it is a good film that counts and when that involves me, I give it a go ahead. It's as simple as that," said Bipasha.
After 'Players', her 'Jodi Breakers' hasn't succeeded either but Bipasha defends her decision to work with director Ashwini Chaudhary.
"I trusted Ashwini's sensibilities once I met him. As for critical acclaim and commercial gains, it's futile to speak about that usually. really bad films get a large number of critical acclaim while really expert films aren't watched by many. It's sheer bad luck that ends up in the downfall of certain films," she explained.
However, it wasn't just the luck factor that played spoilsports with 'Players'. The film just didn't be able to find an audience despite being well promoted.
"Everyone knows that it was an overly expensive film to drag through. Up to we'd have wanted, it might was difficult to recover the prices involved.
Also the timing of the film went wrong. We can have had an even chance if we might have come at every other time. Reality is that it didn't do well so no excuses there," she said.
"It is impractical to release a movie immediately after the brand new Years weekend. People come again to work after a longer holiday season and cannot be expected to step into theatres soon enough," Bipasha further added.
She is excited with some takeaways from both her films.
"I managed to step right into a different zone with 'Jodi Breakers' and audience saw a special side of my persona there. Then again in case of 'Players' when people were so harsh at the film in addition to other folks involved, I got some good reviews. That was heartening enough," she signed off.
