Take me out of the relief zone: Saif

Take me out of the comfort zone: SaifFrom a game to a graphic book to a 12-city tour, Saif Ali Khan is using every possible marketing tool to advertise his newest production "Agent Vinod". The actor-producer says marketing is pricey but vital to a film's success.

"If we glance on the US, it's amazing to look how they market their movies through merchandise and a wide variety other of items. Saif isn't just producing "Agent Vinod", but additionally playing a spy within the thriller directed by Sriram Raghavan. Releasing March 23, it is going to also feature Kareena Kapoor and yesteryear villain Prem Chopra within the cast.

In the previous few years, the economics of filmmaking have undergone tremendous change. As a result, the box-office business has virtually become a question of the primary three days of collection.

"The numbers are so big and those are busy today. In those days there has been not much for entertainment, aside from just watching films. You may see any film five to 6 times and learn all of the dialogues and that was the one excitement. Today, there are such a large amount of other things to do, so this can be a big thing that the primary weekend goes houseful."

Summarising the present business strategy, the 41-year-old said: "AT THE first three days, a movie takes a gap as a result of hype around it, which is, 'Does it come up with a sense to head and watch the film?'

Then Monday is the test day of a movie to determine what sort of film it's - whether it's going to pull off? If the following weekend could also be strong, then it is a super hit. That is the business."

Saif, however, is confident about his product's longer term run and said: "WE'RE taking a look at two weeks already."

What about word of mouth?

"It is normally for small films that hope to grow over a time frame. Today we'd like multiple prints and instant impact of the release," he said.

The 1992 movie "Parampara" marked Saif's entry into filmdom and he gave powerful performances in "Omkara", "Being Cyrus" and "Ek Hasina Thi". However the actor says his role in "Agent Vinod" was most demanding so far.

"'Agent Vinod' was essentially the most demanding role so far, nevertheless it was fun. I BELIEVE if you need good result, you need to work flat out. There needs to be either physical bumps and bruises or mental bumps and bruises."

He doesn't rule out the potential for "Agent Vinod" franchise.

"Let us take one step at a time. If the audience likes the film, could also be lets then call to mind creating a sequel. I BELIEVE the film is ideal to be a franchise. If it really works and it becomes a franchise, then it may be a dream come true," he said.
