Better Saif than Sobhraj
The entire Charles Sobhraj project that have been within the pipeline for director Prawaal Raman for the last three years has gone for a scriptural revamp.
Prawaal whose last film 404 was a chilling horror film has done away with the lengthy bio-pic and written the script to fit Saif Ali Khan's image. Earlier the plan was to cast Sanjay Dutt and make it an authentic bio-pic. But then litigations loomed large over the project.
Also, a source as regards to the project informs us, Saif was not eager about playing Sobhraj per se.
`Saif friend component to the film, namely Sobhraj's escape from Tihar jail. It's one in all grandest jailbreak sagas within the history of convicted term-servers. Only that aspect of the film has now been taken forward and the script is now completely rewritten to fit Saif's personality. `
The idea, we hear, is to now shoot the film entirely on location on the Tihar jail in Delhi, capturing the daredevilish daylight in March 1986 in real-time detail.
Prawaal Raman confirms he has re-written all of the Sobhraj saga to present it a tighter 'thriller' feel.
Says the director, `We all feel the tale works significantly better as a thriller. We've added commercial elements to the unique storyline. Our film is now called Jailbreak. I DO NOT BELIEVE this may be considered Charles Sobhraj's story anymore by any stretch of the imagination. `
After doing a sequence of rom-coms Saif now seems curious about changing his career profile with more realistic films.

Sikh body wants action against Ajay Devgn over `Son of Sardaar`
In a letter to Akal Takht (top Sikh temporal seat) Head Gurbachan Singh, AISSF President Karnail Singh urged him to take stern action against Devgn for blasphemous remarks against the community. He said that the film, to be released in November and produced by Devgn who also plays the lead role, shows the nature of Sikhs in a foul light.
The trailer of the film was already released, containing dialogues like "If Sikhs weren't there then who would have invented abuses?" Karnail said that lines like "If Sardar weren't there, then on whom would the jokes be made" are very demeaning.
In the film, the lead actor, shown as a turban wearing Sardar, has a tattoo of Hindu Lord Shiva engraved on his chest. That is also against the Sikh principles, he said.
However, producer and actor Devgn has not responded to the legal notice till date. The AISSF chief requested Akal Takhta head to intervene within the matter in order for the movie isn't released with the objectionable parts and likewise requested him to refer the problem to police for registration of FIR against the makers and actors of the movie.
Earlier this month, a senior lawyer had issued legal notice to the makers of the movie, levying an analogous allegation after watching the official trailer.

After 86 films, who cares about critics
Priyadarshan, whose 86-film oeuvre have been an eclectic mixture of masala and serious cinema, says he'll continue making both types of movies, whether they make it to the Rs.100 crore club.
"Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal" is about to release September-end and he says it it not meant for critics.
"After 86 films, who cares about critics? If I NEED the critics to love my film, I make films like 'Kanchivaram' (Tamil film), which got me the National Award. That film is for critics, this isn't for critics. 'Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal' is for individuals to enjoy," Priyadarshan told in an exclusive interview.
"After 86 films in numerous languages, you do what you think that is true. Some films flop, some succeed. (BUT WHEN) you flop continuously, you are out," he added.
The 55-year-old is as well-known for helming Hindi comedies like "Hera Pheri", "Hungama" and "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" as for his critically acclaimed southern films like "Chithram" and "Kanchivaram".
Priyadarshan's last two Hindi outings - the issue-based "Aakrosh" and action thriller "Tezz" - didn't manage the predicted response. But the director appears quite unfazed and says people want him to make comedies only, and so he's back to the genre with "Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal".
"My last two films 'Aakrosh' and 'Tezz' didn't do well. I ASSUME individuals are expecting only humour from me; so I'VE decided to switch my attitude this time," he said.
And he promises the similar flavour as in his previous directorials.
The Hindi film industry has lately seen a string of comedy films like "Housefull 2" and "Bol Bachchan", that have struck gold on the box office, or even crossed the golden Rs.100-crore mark. But that isn't the measure of success for Priyadarshan.
"Those films had huge stars. Now we have small stars. I DO NOT want it to cross Rs.100 crore since the film isn't made in an enormous budget. As long because it makes the folks happy, we're happy," he said.
But what works, he believes, is clean comedy.
"I started comedy with 'Hera Pheri'. I THINK that my films are clean. There is not any vulgarity or double meaning. That is how they're different," he said.
When Priyadarshan got down to experiment with comedy with "Hera Pheri" back in 2000, he was warned that the genre wouldn't work at a time when the formula of romance was at its peak. But he was willing to take the risk, and says he desires to continue doing so.
"It began with 'Hera Pheri'. Once I made it, people said Hindi cinema won't ever accept comedies. I'VE tried all types of cinema; I still wish to try serious cinema, otherwise I WILL BE ABLE TO get bored," he said.

Looks like Anurag Basu has a novel way of storytelling, that usually applies even to his own set of actors. While engaged on Basu's next, the solid including Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz apparently remained clueless in regards to the conclusion of the film. That's because Basu doesn't believe in having the screenplay of his films with him during narration schedules.
Ileana on her part thought that it'd be a masala film but was pleasantly surprised over her role of a significant Bengali girl. Priyanka maintains that she never got a narration for the film and it was only Ranbir who got it.
Ranbir tells us that there has been no script within the first place. Instead there has been just a small sheet of paper that Anurag had brought along for the narration. There has been no format and whatever schedule he was told about kept changing throughout the narration.
As far as Priyanka goes, I only told her what Zilmil does within the film. I had never seen Ileana in a film, so I had no image of her in my mind. So far as the schedule being changed is concerned, there were one instance too many.`
Rucha Pathak, senior creative director of the production house states, `Anurag is definitely very clear in his head. He uses arrows to give an explanation for the film to his actors and that is what happened with me through the first narration.`
