In a letter to Akal Takht (top Sikh temporal seat) Head Gurbachan Singh, AISSF President Karnail Singh urged him to take stern action against Devgn for blasphemous remarks against the community. He said that the film, to be released in November and produced by Devgn who also plays the lead role, shows the nature of Sikhs in a foul light.
The trailer of the film was already released, containing dialogues like "If Sikhs weren't there then who would have invented abuses?" Karnail said that lines like "If Sardar weren't there, then on whom would the jokes be made" are very demeaning.
In the film, the lead actor, shown as a turban wearing Sardar, has a tattoo of Hindu Lord Shiva engraved on his chest. That is also against the Sikh principles, he said.
However, producer and actor Devgn has not responded to the legal notice till date. The AISSF chief requested Akal Takhta head to intervene within the matter in order for the movie isn't released with the objectionable parts and likewise requested him to refer the problem to police for registration of FIR against the makers and actors of the movie.
Earlier this month, a senior lawyer had issued legal notice to the makers of the movie, levying an analogous allegation after watching the official trailer.
