Item songs are artistic, not vulgar: Nathalia

Item songs are artistic, not vulgar: NathaliaShe is making her foray within the Hindi film industry with an item song in "Department" and Brazilian model-turned-actress Nathalia Kaur feels that item numbers shouldn't be labelled vulgar as they're in a different way to showcase talent.

"I do not like people calling me an item girl. I BELIEVE it's otherwise of revealing talent and abilities. I DISCOVERED it very artistic. People might criticise and label you, but there's nothing wrong in doing an item number," Nathalia told in an interview.

"The word item girl doesn't hit me, I DO NOT see this as obscene or vulgar, I DISCOVERED this very artistic," she added.

Nathalia might be seen dancing on item number "Dan dan" in "Department". Choreographed by Ganesh Acharya, the soundtrack consists by Dharam Sandeep, Bappi Lahiri and Vikram Nagi.

"The song is a part of the movie and features a lot of meaning. It is very well-placed within the film. I think, the song gave me an opportunity to turn my talent," she said.

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, "Department", starring Sanjay Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan and Rana Daggubati, will pop out May 18.

Nathalia, who started her career with modelling in India, also featured as a Kingfisher calendar girl.

She believes that her modelling helped her bag roles in Bollywood films.

"I started modelling on the right time and on the right place. And at the moment only I met Ram Gopal Varma. We kept in contact. After that I USED TO BE selected for Kingfisher calendar and that truly helped me to be known within the industry. At the moment I'm doing a film, the object number was simply to launch myself within the industry," she said.

The 21-year-old is a trained Opera singer.

"I'm a trained opera singer... I'm an excessively artistic person. I REALLY LIKE things associated with arts, be it anything. I REALLY LIKE singing, I learned singing for 3 years but acting is my passion. Singing makes me complete and add my life," she said.

Asked whether she desires to continue her singing in future, she added: "I WILL BE singing a song in my next movie under the banner of Ram Gopal Varma."

RGV not my mentor

Although the Brazilian model-turned-actress is thankful to the director for giving her the opportunity, she doesn't consider him her mentor or godfather

"Ram Gopal Varma isn't my godfather or my mentor. I'M working with him just as Sanjay Dutt is operating with him. We're engaged on projects together and that is the reason it," Nathalia told reporters here Monday.

"I'M an actor, I am playing a personality on this song ('Dan dan'). It's been amazingly done. I'M honoured to have gotten a possibility to work with people like Sanjay, Rana (Daggubati) and Ram Gopal Varma," she said.

RGV has roped her in for his romantic thriller where Nathalia will play a lead role. She's going to team up with Rana Daggubati within the yet untitled film.
