Yes, we’ve borrowed Rowdy Rathore music from the unique: Sajid-Wajid

Yes, we`ve borrowed Rowdy Rathore music from the original: Sajid-WajidBy Subhash K Jha

In what could easily be considered an unprecedented move to anticipatory exoneration Wajid, one-half of the chart-busting Sajid-Wajid duo has come forward to declare that a a part of the music of their Rowdy Rathore score is borrowed from the unique score within the Telugu film Vikramarkudu.

“There is a signature tune in Vikramarkudu which we couldn’t avoid. It was an essential component of the theme within the Telugu film.

Our producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali who's very music-minded, our director Prabhu Deva and my brother Sajid decided that we would have liked to include that refrain within the Hindi remake, so we did, ” states Wajid unapologetically, and adds tongue-in-cheek that there's nothing underhand in regards to the appropriation.

“We’ve taken the rights of the unique music after which we’ve used it.We’ve also changed the unique tune completely. But we still wish to draw attention to the borrowed bits before others jump in gleefully and accuse us of plagiarism.”

Wajid volunteers that the borrowed riffs are fully paid for. “The right to make use of the unique music have been officially bought. We didn’t must do this because we changed the unique tune completely. But we didn’t wish to rob anyone in their rightful dues.”

There’s an added this is because Sajid-Wajid decided to take the derivative root for Rowdy Rathore. “The Vikramarkudu score is by M M Kreem. We’re big fans of Kreem Saab.

And we agreed to borrow his tune only because it’s an honour to go along with him. Otherwise we maintain we’ll never borrow not to mention copy anyone’s music. If anyone catches us doing so we're willing to apologize publicly.”
