After Jacqueline, Bollywood calling another Miss Sri Lanka
After Jacqueline Fernandez's success, another Miss Sri Lanka Gamya Vijayadasa signs a Hindi film in a lead role

It looks as if stepping off the ramp and straight into Bollywood sets has become an unspoken norm for many models — both Indian and international. Looks as if after Jacqueline Fernandez, Gamya Vijayadasa could be the second Sri Lankan beauty queen to offer Bollywood a shot.

The model-turned-actress is ready to work in director Luv Ranjan’s next. The director’s last film was Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Gamya however refuses to divulge information about her upcoming project.

She says, “I’m not at liberty to mention anything concerning the character. All I WILL BE ABLE TO mention is that it’s a youthful film and am glad to be a part of the project.”

Rajan’s upcoming project is about to hit the ground by the top of the year. However, it won’t mark Gamya’s Bollywood debut. The girl has already done an item number for an upcoming musical drama.

Gamya adds, “I don't have any qualms about performing an item song as I’m a trained dancer within the Sri Lankan dance type of Kandyan — that's very theatrical in nature — for over 15 years now. So it’s actually numerous fun but on the same time, I don’t need to be typecast as an item girl.”

After winning the sweetness queen title in her native country, Gamya was receiving offers from the local film industry but nothing excited her enough to sign the dotted lines.

Country calls

On being asked whether she is in contact with compatriot Jacqueline Fernandez, Gamya says she hasn’t met her yet. “I haven’t even spoken to her though I’d like to. It’s really an inspiration to peer someone out of your own country doing well within the Hindif film industry, ” she further adds.
