Films and marketing plans should be conceived together

Films and marketing plans should be conceived togetherInnovative marketing is must for a film's success, feels Mahesh Bhatt who launched the music of his next project 'Blood Money' on a yacht out at sea, saying by doing so the bar were raised.

"If you conceive a movie but haven't thought of the marketing, you then can be in trouble. In only three days, a film's fate is determined. Regardless of how bad a movie might be, but when it runs houseful nobody has the heart to mention anything against it. So, marketing may be very important," Bhatt said.

However, Bhatt feels it is not easy to market a movie because it decides the fate of the film.

"After making the film, marketing it's altogether a distinct marathon. It's not easy to get you all here in this boat (for instance)," he added.

Bhatt, the media and the team of 'Blood Money' were Monday ferried from the Gateway of India to the yacht. Bhatt says by launching the music on a yacht, Vikram Malhotra, CEO of Viacom 18, has "raised the bar".

"After this it will likely be difficult for us to check the type of expectation that you just guys can have on us. We cannot take you to the moon after this. But never say never," he said.

"We have always believed that marketers do not need that sort of passion as that of the creative team. There's a form of disconnection. But if Viacom showed us the presentation, we were humbled," he added.

Directed by debutant Vishal Mahadkar, 'Blood Money' stars Kunal Khemu and Amrita Puri within the lead roles. Co-produced by Vishesh Films and Viacom18 Motion Pictures, it's scheduled to release March 30.
