Her performance in Muzaffar Ali’s Umrao Jaan in 1981 not just won Rekha her first National Award but additionally made a whole nation hum the soulful songs from the film.
It was Muzaffar’s first liaison with the camera. After doing only one more film, he retired to a quiet lifetime of designing, poetry and paintings. Now buzz is that Rekha might actually do a cameo in a sequel that may be being planned to the unique film.
Latest is that Muzaffar desires to make a comeback to Bollywood and has asked his friend and screenplay writer of the unique Umrao Jaan, Javed Siddiqui to put in writing the sequel and the screenplay for him.
Siddiqui tells HitList, “Yes, I’m engaged on a script for Muzaffar saab and we can be working together after 30 years. The film could be very much at the lines of a sequel to Umrao Jaan.” There's strong buzz that the makers are trying very hard to get Rekha to be part of the solid.
