Ailing Achala Sachdev dies at 88Yesteryear actor Achala Sachdev gave up the ghost in Pune on Monday, said family sources. She was 88.

According to reports, Sachdev was bed-ridden for the past seven months on the Poona Hospital and Research Centre (PHRC).

Veteran journalist and writer Bhawana Somaaya posted on Facebook: "Sad news. Achala Sachdev the pretty screen mom for whom Balraj Sahani sang in Waqt died peacefully in Pune writes a chum from the hospi."

Sachdev broke her left leg after a fall in her house nearly six months ago.

She also suffered from a brain infarction because of which she lost her vision and movements of higher and lower limbs, media reports said.

Sachdev gained immense popularity by for enjoying roles of mother and grandmother in Hindi films.

Her most memorable roles include playing actor Balraj Sahni's wife in 1965 film 'Waqt' and Kajol's grandmother within the film 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' in1995.

She made her film debut with 'Fashionable Wife' in1938 and acted in over 130 Hindi films in her career.

She charmed the audience by playing some memorable roles in numerous films like: 'Na Tum Jaano Na Hum', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', 'Chandni', 'Karm' and 'Albela'.
